i need to get a new key for a MK4, by the sounds of it WILLZIE's method will work.

however, if I buy a new key of ebay, how do I get it cut, at dealer?

cheers.

Any locksmith will cut the key for you - if you have an existing key as a 'pattern', they will work from that.  If they are 'consientious', then they may need some kind of ID - photocard driving licence and V5.

Any good?

Thanks TT, I got an answer elsewhere. I realise it's easy to get one cut. It's the coding bit, or does the mk4 1.6 match not have an illmobilser?

I'm not sure on that - but I would have honestly expected ALL Mk4s to have an immobiliser.  It is usually the alarm system which is not standard fitment on lower spec models.

When you separate the key into two halves, can you see an immobiliser 'chip' in the 'key section'?

Anyway, prolly best asking the Mk4 chaps/chapesses for the correct info.
