Hi

Have been reading lots of posts, and realise if I do put some 14" Snowflake alloys on my GTD I have to declare them.

So... I called direct line and they said absolutely no, not until you are 25. My premium is £772. I took out the policy on the 12/03/09 at which point in their eyes I had been driving for 2 years with 1 year NCB. I have been driving for over 3 now (passed late August 06) but still tied up in this policy.

Is there anyway I can get them to insure me with them, there are no other mods and I have a totally clean licence, it seems a bit unfair:(. I love this car but I think the wheels totally destroy its looks.
Thanks
Will

Might be worth asking them to have a word with their underwriter. I can't see them refusing that as a request. Be very specific with both the original wheel/tyre size and the replacements (including value and age) and state that you'll fit locking wheel nuts. If they refuse, ask to speak to a supervisor as it should not be too much of a risk unless you're putting stupidly expensive/big alloys on it.

They're looking at the likelihood of the wheels being stolen and increasing the desirability of the car. You can always state you'll be happy to take your business elsewhere. I'm sure that HIC would do you a good quote

Christ, that's a ripoff.

Direct Line seem very similar to when I was with Kwik-Fit, paid £1000 for my policy on a MK3 1.8 GL, put BBS alloys on it and they made me pay £400 more. I sadly went with it, but left them after for Admiral who charged me £970 with other mods including lowering. I passed July 2006 so same amount of time driving as you.

I finished my policy with Admiral and am now with Adrian Flux with the underwriter as Highway, charging me £650 for the year, with all my mods declared like for like :)

Thanks for the replies. Just called Directline again, was on the phone for ages, basically they are adament that if the wheels were not on the car when it came out the factory, then they cannot insure me. I love being treated as a number , though i guess thats what you get if you go with a very big company like that. I will just have to leave it until my renewal, and i wont be going back to them. hopefully there will be come nice cheap policies. mine seems pretty expensive compared to many on here who have modifications and faster cars .
Thanks for the help though

How old are you? That is quite pricey for a GTD.

I'm 20, passed my test when I was 17. driving for over 3 years now. yeah I thought it was expensive but when I took out the policy it was the cheapest I could find. :o
