Jacking Point Rust
« on: 01 October 2009, 13:21 »
Having thought my Golf was perfect, it turns out there is rust instide each of the holes of the front jacking points. Certainly if I pushed hard enough it would probably push though and make a hole. I cannot see any rust around the round points just inside the hole.
Can these be fixed and welded easily. If so has anyone had it done by a garage and roughly how much was the cost.
The plan was to keep the car in a garage over the winter while I'm at uni. But since its taxed and insured seems stupid not to have it with me in Bristol.

Also does anyone know of a red Golf Rallye(Debadged front grill) in the Filton area of Bristol, as I live in the road next to it. Would be good to meet the owners, there seem to be loads of Mk2s in that road as well.

Thanks
Will

issue is you have to burn all the waxoil off prior to welding plus lifting all carpets etc which takes the time. Had mine done recently by a mate but he said it would normally be about £120 ish a side for a proper job.

Mine cost £100 for one side plus VAT - don't use the jacking point any more - of course!

Thanks for the replies. Guess I will just have to look around for quotes as it seems to vary a lot.
The sound deadening on my passenger side was also smelly and slimey. I dried it out as best I could and put it back. Do those jacking holes come straight through to the inside of the car then, because when I looked without the sound deadening, there was no hole going through to the jacking point. Seems it goes into the sill space.
Also why would the sound deadening get bad like that, any common places for leaks?
