I went for:
G12 coolant from GSF (also used some cooling system flush from Halfruads beforehand)
Bosch Sprak plugs from GSF (not sure which ones, I just asked for the ones that would fit my car)
Oil filter and sump plug washer from VW
Brake pads from GSF
Air filter is a Jetex Panel, so I got the cleaning stuff online from Jetex for it
Mobil 1 oil from Costco (£25 for 5 litres - baargain!)
PAS, alternator belt and Cambelt+Pulley from VW
1992 VW Golf MK2 GTI
1995 VW Corrado VR6

Bosch Spark plugs, MANN oil filter, MANN air filter, Titan Oil from GSF, Pagid pads, coolant from GSF or Halfrauds, alt belt from halfrauds, that was on the first Golf.

2nd Golf so far I've got Mobil 1 oil from Halfrauds, BERU GP's from Martz when I bought it, a PAS & Alt belt from GSF, 2 cork rocker cover gaskets that are pants from GSF, I advise getting a rubber one. Still need to give her a decent service.
Passat B5.5 2.3 V5 170, with all the extras.

But for the purest engine experience, displacement has no replacement. All other methods are simply attempts to artificially recreate the benefits of displacement.

Unless you have a freshly rebuilt engine Id recomend not wasting your money on Mobil 1 or any other low viscocity synthetic oils, they are sh!t hot in engines designed for low viscocity synthetic oils but can cause all sorts of problems in older high milage engines such as noisy tappets (the low viscocity means it "can" drain out a bit too easily) and oil leaks from previously tight gaskets (they "can" clean the deposits holding old gaskets together). Only my experience on 2 golfs so far though . I think the last full service I did on my golf cost less than the oil I used to use on my last car (BMW 323) though I made the mistake of putting some thin semi-synth oil I had lying around, cue noisy lifters.

I've always gone for the quantum silva (sp?) oil you can get from the stealers, semi-synth and 20-25 for 5 litres.
