help with my non starter please...
« on: 30 September 2009, 20:51 »
can anyone help me out please.....

my golf's starting to do my head in now- i had blown the head gasket and didn't have the time or money to sort it for a few months.

so got the head skimmed and a neighbour helped put it back but afterwards it turned out that the company that skimmed it didn't time the cam gears right and broke 1 of the cam followers! luckily no valves!!!

so fixed that and got everything in and timed right and the engine was running ok apart from the potentiometer (i think...its the switch on the throttle body, just having 1 priced up now) it didn't idle well until it was running for a couple of minutes.

so finished putting back all interior and smiling at thought of driving it again.....started car in reverse gear- the clutch was in- it kangerooed back with me scratching my head?? took it out of gear started again...click....then again....click! bugger starter motor gone.

soo starter motor had loose wire/ thats now fixed- start car again...click.....click!!!

tried to bump car but couldn't as clutch seemed to stick to flywheel so we had a great idea of towing the car to bump it-- scarey thought that car was going to blow!! BUT it did fire up and drove, still idles badly- part waiting and as it was standing the brakes were poo.

sooo after all that (thought i'd explain everything for everyone) the starter is still clicking once when turning but i've had it in autoelectricians who tested it and said it was fine. the power and grounds are tested and ok i struggling now and still cant afford to take it to garage as i'm a student.

any help or tips would be brilliant- thanks scotty
