Help to fix kerbed Monzas

Just returned from a 1,200 mile tour of France (btw fantastic smooth roads there, unlike the corrugated rubbish that shakes my teeth out here). Anyway, got to within 2 miles of home and some prat forced me wide at a corner and I scraped the rims on my nearside 18" Monzas. Can anyone recommend a refurb company in the Stevenage or central Herts area? I've got 6 inch scrapes on the rim of each wheel so I guess I'm looking at a couple hundred quid?

Lepsons in Kent are probably your nearest who have experience of Monza's.

Yes, best to budget £100 per rim but might be less.

A1 in Wolverhampton are also very good.

Pristine Wheels in Milton Keynes do all the official VW refurbs.  And there is also Spit and Polish, who have a truely excellent reputation.

I'm in Aberdeen and found a local company who sent the wheel off to Pristine in Milton Keynes - cost me £70 + vat, includes taking tyre off and putting back on and balancing.

They were kept very busy by VW UK during the launch of the MK5 GTI and are VERY familiar with refurbing the Monzas.

These people also offer an exchange service if they have 'pre-refurbed' wheels in stock and you don't want to wait for yours to be done.

But they are generally for the later Ronal made Monza IIs - identified by rubber snap-in valves.  The earlier BBS made Monza IIs are much rarer (with metal bolt-in valves), and they generally don't have any stock.

Didn't know that (although I did know that Ronal and BBS both made the Monza IIs). Out of interest, which are best? I have the BBS ones.

They both suffer from the 'white worm' issue.

But the BBS are better, especially for high speed driving - due to not suffering from valve stem flex which the rubber valves can.  And I think the BBS are slightly lighter, due to their 'hollow rim' design.

lepsons in kent quoted me £68 for black inserts and diamond cut face (18") which I thought was spot on... got a picture of a set they done on their web site
