« on: 13 September 2009, 08:33 »
ok so engines in, now kinda confused as to what fuel pump set up i need (car used to be a carb'er).

as i understand it, i need an in tank lift pump/sender unit either from a mk2 16v golf or a 16v polo etc and also a mk2 16v under body fuel pump.

keep seeing digifant (8v) set ups for sale, would that work? like this:
 http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/VW-Golf-GTI-Mk2-90-Spec-Digifant-Fuel-Pump-Assembly_W0QQitemZ250494525897QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM?hash=item3a52a321c9&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14#ht_500wt_1182

or can i get an intank one like this?

or an electric one like this?
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Fuel-Pump-Audi-80-100-BMW-VW-Golf-Passat-Peugeot-Volvo_W0QQitemZ140311993662QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM?hash=item20ab3f1d3e&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14#ht_1636wt_939

in tank pumps  are same  spec for digi and k jet.

if you are running K jet you MUST have a K jet under car pump.

if you are running Electronic injection ( any flavor ) as long as it isn't a boosted enigne the Digifant pump is fine, but you can use K jet pumps if you wish ( they are just over specked for NA use bit good with turbo lumps)

if running carbs  the lift pump allone is adiquate
all the VW's have gone bar 1.

non of the MK2 stuff will work on a MK1, mk2 under car pump is too big and lift pump wont fit in the tank.

what you need is a MK1 injection under car pump, accumulator & lines, plus associated brackets. make sure its from a k-jet model as very last cabby models were digifant.  The last link there looks to be the correct fuel pump, just need the lines & accumulator + brackets to match.

Then you have 2 choices:
1. replace fuel tank for MK1 tintop GTI item
2. fit later MK1 cabby/scirocco lift pump, reservoir and lines to the pump into your carby tank

As rubjonny said.

Mine was a 1.5 carb. Used mk1 GTI tank and pump that sits next to it.

Carb tank uses lift pump in the top. GTi tank just the sender in the top and hole at the bottom for the supply for the pump

Thanks
