Lights defunked.
« on: 11 September 2009, 05:04 »
Hi everyone. Im new in town and need some help if you can (please). Two for you and hopefully you can answer them. Ok her goes, number one: Ive had my golf for a long time now and its an 8v kjet gti (1984). Im giving you as much info as poss so it might be easier for you to diagnose. The headlights are giving me major headaches as they dont want to work properly. When i put them on side lights everything is fine front and back. When i put them on to dipped beam everything is fine front and back. When i put them onto full beam they go back to sidelights but the back is still fine. All the other functions are all okay for the lights. Its two headlights at the front with the two spotlights in the middle. The spotlights never come on during the lights going on and off. Number two: My car starts up first kick of the key after being left for months but it gets very irratic when it heats up so it wont tick over well. It gets very very lumpy and will cut out if you leave it. Plus its got a rotten flat spot untill it heats up properly as in theres nothing when you put your foot down sharply. Any help would be brilliant. Thanks for reading and listening to me gripe lol, i do love my wee car really .

FIRST OF ALL I HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM PREVIOUSLY WITH MY D PLATE GTI THE LIGHT PROBLEM WAS SOLVED DUE TO THE LIGHT WIREING BEING SLIGHTLY WRONG OR IT COULD HAVE EVEN BEEN A BAD EARTH IF I REMEMBER RIGHTLY.

SECONDLY THE TICK OVER PROBLEM IS A SMALL DIAPHRAM WHICH IS BOLTED TO THE BACK OF THE INLET MANIFOLD WHICH IS BROKEN AND NEEDS REPLACING IM SURE I HAVE ONE LYLING AROUND HERE WHICH YOU CAN HAVE IF I CAN DIG IT OUT.

Thanks simpleton, sounds like a plan lol. The last time i MOT'd the car it passed with flying colours but couldnt afford to put it on the road so its sat in the garage for close to 2 yrs now. The trouble with the lights has not long started so i dont think its wiring the wrong way round, Im pretty good at doing everything else to the car except the dreaded wiring. Vag had a look at the wiring the last time i took it in (when they were in grangemouth) and said they had sorted the minor problem. Electrical problems are never minor . So i hope its nothing to bad. The only problem is, they didnt tell me what caused the problem in the first place, so thats why i need some help. If you let me know where you are you can let me know when you dig up the diaphram and if your not to far away i'll come get it. Thanks loads mate.
