TDI - warm start
« on: 11 September 2004, 18:34 »
Hi all.

Having just changed from a MK3 VR6 to a 110bhp TDI (petrol costs forced me!), i'm pretty new to this forum....  just after a bit of advice.

From a cold start the car starts instantly. However, when the engine has warmed up it struggles to start. It normally will start 2nd or 3rd try with a bit of a press on the accelerator. I'm presuming this isnt normal? My first thoughts would be a possible engine temperature sensor problem....  any ideas or comments owul be great.  ???

cheers.

could be:

dodgy coolant temp sensor, about ?25 and dead easy to fit (known fault)

slow cranking starter motor, but lets hope not because the only cure is a new starter and they're not cheap (also known fault  :-\ )

faulty/dying battery, beg/steal/borrow a battery from someone that you KNOW is new or fairly new and try that

have a read of this too, http://tech.bentleypublishers.com/thread.jspa?threadID=10778&tstart=15

if you're still stuck after that, i guess we'll have to try something else !  ;D
