Engine Judder??

Hi guys.

I'm still pretty new to the TDI scene so i thought I'd run this past you and see what the experts think.

I recently got a 110bhp TDI Golf, and its been fantastic so far........ except for one thing. When I'm driving along and coming up to say a junction and I drop down the gears, when I put the clutch down to roll up the final few metres there is a distinct judder and the rev's vary very slightly. I'm assuming it is the engine that is juddering by the way.

Does anyone have any ideas what might be causing this? As a bit more background - when the car has pulled up and is stationary the judder will stop. This can happen when the car is warm or cold.

1) Check engine mounts/bushes and dog-bone mount.
2) Check dual-mass flywheel for warping (pray it isnt this, v. expensive)
3) Find someone with vag-com or take it to a dealers to check for fault codes, possibly MAF related so expect to pay around ?75 for an exchange unit.

There's probably something I've missed but that should get you started.

Thanks for the quick reply. Will get those checked out. However the MAF sensor has already been replaced a week or so ago under warranty from the dealer, so hopefully that rules that out as the problem was there before that was changed.

ahh you left out the magic word "warranty" in your first post 
In that case, take it to the stealership and scream and shout a bit, go out with one of the technicians and replicate the judder and demand that they fix it. If you think it's driveable enough then hang on until they have a courtesy vehicle before you let them have your car.
If they give you any grief at all, express your dissatisfaction and mention the words "VW HQ" a few times. They absolutely HATE it when disgruntled customers write to HQ

I'd go for the rear "Dog-Bone" Bush. Just replaced mine with the Poweflex version and the transformation is superb. You do though, get a little vibration on tickover but you can live with that for the gains it produces. Costs around ?15and dead easy to fit in 10 mins.

Just to close this thread off... this is now fixed. Turned out to be the fuel delivery rate that was the problem. They altered it and now it is sweet :-)
