16v rad fan issue....
« on: 20 August 2009, 08:05 »
My rad fan sems to be acting a bit odd....

Yesterday for example I went for a gentle 10-15 min drive (from cold) which just about got the car up to temp. I then parked up and left it for about 30 mins. When I got back the rad fan was going, as soon as I turned the ignition it stopped.

When I checked the MAF oil temp it was only 78 degrees so I don't understand why the fan would have been going.

I understand that the fan can run when the ignition is off/car is locked up etc if the engine is still hot but don't know why it would be when it's only just warm really.

It's not a big issue but I can see the fan flattening the battery sometime if it's running for no reason.

Ideas anyone?

Could be a faulty fan switch.

probably the fan-after run sensor wire has fallen off, look for the sensor bolted to the front of the inlet, its a single pin item. there should be a black wire to it, check its not snapped off and sat earthed out on the engine somewhere
