Need more (electrical) POWER
« on: 07 August 2009, 09:10 »
Hi

It's getting wet and dark out there, which means;
lights on,
wipers on,
fan on,
Voltage gauge reading 11v
Ign warning light glows.

I am on my 3rd second hand alternator, and maybe it is time to bit the bullet and buy a new one...  Instead getting the correct one, does anyone know of another VAG motor that uses the same 8V engine block, but comes with an alternator with some balls? (80amp + would be nice)
I know that the alternator brackets/pulleys are different for different models, but this can be over come, as long as the pulleys line up.

Any help would be cool thanks,

kraM

i think a 90 amp alternator from an 8v mk2 may fit try gsf,  2nd hand is a bit of false economy with things like these

or go to scrappy and rob all the pullys off a mk3 and the alternator bracket and convert to multivee belt with a 90A alternator  just fit a new reg and brush pack and you'll be away
all the VW's have gone bar 1.
