First of all......Welcome to the site.

The wheel choice will be dependant on how far you want to lower the car. Also to make sure you have the right profile tyre on the wheels as this can mess up the speedo reading.

If you don't want to go too low and harsh then I would go with a good spring & shock set. Mine is down 40mm with 17" wheels on that have a 40 profile tyre on and I get no problems with rubbing unless the car is really full of people/luggage etc. if you wanted 16" wheels then you will need a 45 profile tyre on.

Wayne had his car a lot lower with 17's on but I think he had to modify the arches a little. I'm sure he will correct me if I got it wrong  :embarassed:

As for the brakes, mine work sufficiently for me but it's all about individual preferences.

I'm sure someone will be along soon to give more advice.

Welcome to the site, I ran 17"s (35 offset) with 205/40/17's on coilovers set for around a 70mm drop, only issue I had was they would catch on the rear wheel arches, in the end I removed the plastic arches and trimmed the arch lips back.

Some pictures in this thread: http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=124181.0

If I was doing another mk3 I would run 16"s as the car will go lower if needed.

Hope this helps.

  • Back in a Mk3...
It will drive better on 16's......and you can fit 195 or 205/45x16 to 215/40x16 tryes
