But for the purest engine experience, displacement has no replacement. All other methods are simply attempts to artificially recreate the benefits of displacement.

crazy times - the old ripspeed catalogue used to have all sorts of that nonsense! that's back in the yellow and black advert days, when mr ripp owned it down norf lundun mate.

Ripspeed actually used to do some alright stuff till halfords got their mitts on it. The Ripspeed adjustable cones for classic minis were the ones used in motorsport IIRC.
