loss of power
« on: 26 August 2004, 12:18 »
I have a 2000 plate 1.8T the engine management unit has been reset to defult after the engine warning light came on. Tests were run with no fault showing.  After putting your footdown 6000 revs the engine seems v jerky and losses power. Has anyone experienced this before?

what was the cause of the engine check light in the first place ?
you're way beyond peak torque at 6k rpm so cant be clutch slippage, get it on a diagnostic/vag com and see if there's any faults.. specifically to do with MAF (air mass meter), might want to also clean the throttle body.

doesn't the power drop off at 5500rpm anyway on a 150?

I'd start by cleaning everything out. make sure airways and pipes haven't collected anything they shouldn't have. also pop a bit of cleaner in with the next fill up. that'll clean the injectors out.

if you've been driving it very hard, and it sounds like you have, then the DV could be playing up if you haven't already changed it for a forge one. if it is then it could be releasing presure when its' not suppose to.
