yeah it must have been the console i had problems with, didnt take the seats out so had to give it a bit of welly to get it in.

note to self: take more of rubjonny's advice and dont attempt to change the heater matrix yourself!

well its not massively difficult, its just it takes ages as you have so much extra crap in the way of the heater housing. the dash is more tricky to remove compared to the mk2 as well, tip make sure you have the right sool to undo the special bolts on the side!  once thats out then you have the knee bar which is in the way, gotta pull that forward. unforunatly steering column is mounted to it with shear bolts, i undid the uj instead and left column bolted up. need to take all the plastic side trims off in the footwells and peel eadge of carpet back to get the knee bar to come forward enough, which is a pain as the sill strips cover the trims etc.  got there in the end!  Took a full day to do it, easily twice as long as same job in mk2.
