I currently have a cable changed box on my 2.0 16v GTi and i am considering the 20v Turbo box along with the cable shifter as it has the adjusters on it to keep the cables tight and gear change in check.

Anyone one the logistics on whether this fits or not?

I have been told the 16v box is the best for the 1.8t conversion, so you could just keep the 16v box, and then not have to mess about with the shifter, and also make things easier with drive shafts. As im not sure if the mk4 and mk3 are interchangable with drive shafts?

When i enquired with MV about putting one in, they suggested fitting it to my 8v gearbox.

And i know of a 16v abf running on an 8v gearbox.

So im pretty sure the 1.8t would fit both the 8v and 16v mk3 gearboxs just fine.

Food for thought :/

Eh?

Sorry mate you've confused the hell out of me!

I never mentioned a 1.8T conversion?

I want to fit the 20v turbo gearbox to my 2.0 16v engine.....  As my o2a box is dying and want to future proof it against the plans i have for the 16v lump.....
Cheers,

Paul.

I would have thought the Turbo gearbox will have the wrong ratios for your abf engine.

I think the box will physically fit but you may need to change the clutch and flywheel to suit.

If you are only worried about the cable adjustment you may be able to change just the selector tower.

I would have thought that it would be easier and cheaper to get your current box refurbished in the long run unless you have plenty of time and resources to sort the swap yourself.
