On saturday i fill the car up with ?20 of petrol, I drive 30miles down a bypass on sunday, Today i start the car up and the fuel lines toutching on red, Im wondering if either:

A) theres somthing wrong with the dial, The cars parked on a gentle slope over night, could this be it?

B) Somthings up with my tank, fuel lines etc

Somthing must be up, Even if i was ragging it (which i wasnt) I doubt i would burn about ?15 worth of fuel in 30 miles  :o

yeah. mine can more quite a lot if it's parked at an angle. even on my drive that's fairly flat it'll move.

Ahhh Thanks guys. One more question, Is there anything i can do to make it show the rear amount? I drove it for about 10 miles but the meter still said i was just above the red  :-\

it'll never show the exact amount cos the fuel is always 'sloshing' around in the tank. you'd have to park on a dead flat and leave the ignition on.

the fuel gauge sender is located on the far right side of the tank, so you very rarely get an accurate readin while on the move!!

mk2 fuel guages can be half a quarter out either way i find. you can see the petrol drop by a q of a tank when you come off the motorway and brake to a stop, and then it goes up a q when you cane it off.

Could be a dirty connection / poor earth on the sender unit. This happened a few times with my Capri.. Try cleaning the terminals with a bit of emery and squirting a bit of oil in there ;)
