Engine mods.... ie ReMap
« on: 27 July 2009, 14:10 »
Hi all, quick Q. When you have your car re-mapped, how is it declared on insurance? Do you have to declare your BHP or give them details the exact work that has been done?

Cheers,
Nick

On bell in the modifications it has categories such as

BHP Increase (up to 15%)
BHP Increase (15% upwards)

(May not be exact figures but you get the general idea!)

I think you will just have to tell them the increase.

Direct Line?

I've never really got a quote, but you could try getting a quote, then get another (identical) but add the mods? Spot the difference? Gives you a rough idea.

Heard good things about Brentacre. You pay your premimum to cover you to an agreed bhp limit, 220bhp for example. What you do to get there isn't of interest to them

Phone and ask. Chances are they'll say it'll need to be referred to an underwriter but generally you may find it's a 10% premium load, dependant on how much more power it gives you.
