on the m2's the only differance between 8 and 16v box is 5th gear.

put a mk1 1600 gti box in it FD code if you can find one. that'll make it shift

as above, if its a short ratio mk1 gti box it will go faster on that thru the gears than a 16v one. only issue is 5th is a bit short so bit more buzzy on the motorway.
