Knocked Camber out - wonky steering wheel!
« on: 25 June 2009, 22:59 »
Changed wheel bearing the other day and in doing so forgot that upon removing and refitting the hub i would knock the camber out. Fitted it al back together to find that the steering wheel is now wonky ( turned approx 45 degrees to the left and the car pulls to the right a little.

Parked up in flat car park with wheels straight and noticed that the camber on the wheel i had changed the wheel bearing on was out and looked as if it was leaning inwards (positive toe?). Also looked as if the tracking was slightly out as that same wheel looked to be pointing a little outwards.

Tried to adjust the camber and made a minor improvement on steering ( i think) and definetly on visual appearance of wheel. Question: could just the camber  cause the steering wheel to be out???

Second point: Took car to ats to have tracking done today and they went to do it and then called me over to say they couldnt do it and to show me something. When they turned the steering wheel from left to right one side of the rear of the car went up and one side of the car went down. They said they wouldntdo the tracking for fear of them getting the blame for that "problem" they had just found. I reckoned this to be occuring beacuse of the camber being out as they wheel in a simple form rolling from one side to the other under turning, could this be the reason?!?!

Sorry about tghe essay again!

#Cheers for any help!

Sounds like to me you need camber and tracking sorting, I believe protyre in Bristol can do it.

Yes Protyre in Bristol have the stuff to do the job.

Getting a full alignment should sort your problems. Protyre will charge you for how many adjustments they do.

Mine cost about £50 and they adjusted everything.
