Golf GTI Mk2 5 door
« on: 21 June 2009, 20:52 »
Should I buy it?

I've got a mk5 just now, was looking for a mk1 as a project but came across a mk2 on ebay.

Have you looked at it?

To be honest, that's probably the best way to answer your question.

It looks tidy enough in the pics, although the wheels and mirrors don't do anything for me.

That said, something strange seems to be going on with the jacking point covers, especially the front off side. The pics don't really show the bolster wear on the seats and no pics of the engine at all. Steering wheel would suggest power steering (i think), but it isn't mentioned anywhere in the ad so best to assume none fitted.

At the end of the day, it seems to be a base spec 8v with no power steering, no electric windows, no electric mirrors so i wouldn't say it's anything special.

I'd say the best thing to do is do a little research on here, go and look at it with your new found knowledge, write down any concerns and then come back to the forum for answers.

Buying a motor off ebay without looking at it first is always going to be a gamble.

Im not mad on the non vw doormats, gearknob, wheels and england flag on the numberplate

You can see the bolster damage he mentioned here, http://i.ebayimg.com/23/!BUj+ZiwCGk~$(KGrHgoH-EQEjlLluvvMBKOINn7pbg~~_1.JPG
Its a shame its on the cushion cos it means basically replacing the whole seat.

Always view before buying a car on ebay.
