Jeez..they know how to charge don't they?
« on: 22 June 2009, 19:58 »
From time to time I like to look on the VW used car search to cheer myself up by checking out cars of the same age and mileage as mine and seeing how much they're priced at!! How can they seriously be asking nearly 19k for a car I got for just over 16k? Bet if I went for a valuation it would be closer to 14K! Odd thing is...I got mine from a main dealer?! Maybe they'd got the 6 upside down??

Since March, supply's been weak so used prices have shot up.  It will only get worse if the scrappage scheme carries on.

I could actually make £2000 profit if I sold mine privately tomorrow, when it was being detailed AutoPerfection had 5 or 6 offers for it!

^^ very true. Used car prices have gone up by a fair bit recently. Try picking up an autotrader (yorkshire) and you will see its about 1/4 the size it used to be in the good times.

I usually keep an eye on car prices too... so much so that I think im going to scrap my plans to get a used car and just negotiate a very good deal for a new car, then at the last moment hit them with the car scrappage scheme and use my mums old Ka as part of the deal to get an extra 2k off!!

^^ The new car will have to be in your mums name if you do that as the owner of the new car must have owned the scapped car for at least a year. Apologies if you already knew that!

Yeah i did but kind of over looked that tbh. Im sure there is a way around that somewhere

If not I will just get it changed to my name afterwards.

If the previous owners surname is the same as yours then the potential buyer shouldn't have a problem.

I had to do it with my Golf as I traded in my mums old car as part of the deal.

Despite it not being in your name, the fact it was your mothers name was enough for them to take it and knock 2k off?
