Engine keeps dieing

Need a little advice on this, the car runs fine 99% of the time (1.8 8v 1991) then I'll pull upto a round about or lights put my foot on the clutch the revs drop and the engine dies, starts again on the first turn of the key. this has only just started to happen in the last couple of weeks and has done it about hallf a doven times. Before this started to happen the revs would always drop below tickover when the clutch was pressed but never to the point of stalling.
Any ideas?

at a guess id say isv valve. take it off and give it a flush through with petrol till all the black gunk runs clear. other than that check all vac pipes and air filter.

i'd suggest you start looking for vacuum leaks, try there for suggestions:

i would go with the idle switch or wiring to it being at fault
If you follow the boot from the airbox you will find the throttle body, there is a 2 pin connector on the throttle body, give the wiring a gentle pull to make sure it isnt broken

right then been in the garage tonight looking for causes for this problem. I've read the thread posted by aaron1980, the isv appears to be working but will be getting cleaned when i have more time. With the vacumn hoses i have a couple more questions
1) on the front of the throttle valve there are two hoses one goes to a tee peice then to the air box and fuel reg the second is a short hose with a metal plug in the end (should this be connected to somthing?)
2) on the rear of the valve theres another short hose again plugged (should this go some where?)
3) at the end of the inlet manifold there is another vacuum hose with a tee piece which is capped on the leg this was sucking air as it was worn on one side i think i have sealed this (made no differanc to the revs dropping below idle almost to stalling)
Thanks for all the advice.

The two blocked pipes coming from the throttle body are normal, they were part of some emmissions thing that we didnt use
The pipe that comes off the inlet manifold is the servo pipe and should be sealed as it will cause idle problems and braking problems
