GIAC DSG flash and standard GTi questions..
« on: 31 May 2009, 23:36 »
I'm looking into getting the above done to help sort my sloppy clutch problem on my GTi. I have a standard GTi with bluefin remap and at the start the clutches slipped on in-gear WOT, it doesn't do it at the moment but you can feel the ECU has pulled back the timing to protect the clutches and because of this it has weird power delivery characteristics.

I think the answer would be the GIAC DSG remap but I have a few questions..

1) Is there anyone on here that has had this done on a standard, non-ED30, GTi? and if so what was the differences before and after?

2) Is it posible specify the rev limiter to what you want, as on a standard GTi is not nessesary to have a 7K+ rev limit when 6.5K is enough?

3) Has anyone had it done via Regal in Southampton as they are the closest to me, if so what was your experience?

4) I've read the it increases the clutch clamping pressure on numerous forums, but not anywhere official that I can find, can someone link something official to support this - or atleast a good site to explain.

Thanks,

Adrian.

Here you go Ady, GIAC's own official USA website

http://www.giacusa.com/news.php?newsid=97

If you then click on the software for the GTI you will see that in the details it says it increases the torque handling to 500nm.

When I had the ED30 done I also asked general questions about the map and they will do specific maps with lower RPM change ups to meet your own requirements.

Neilm has had his done at Regal (ED30 though) and loves it.

I've had issues similar to yours in the past and the GIAC is working so far for me. Works with any make of engine performance software too.

Thanks for that Hurdy - cheers.

If I can get the Rev limiter set to 6.5k then it's definately something to get - hopefully it'll sort car out once and for all.

One last question, is this something that the insurance need to know about? I'd guess not as it's not a performance mod as such, but did you notify them about the dsg flash?
