Lots of question regarding ball park figures. Its just a case of using what is around. There are usually a fair few MKII's in the classified sections, or you could use the search function available at the top of the page. You can pay anywhere between a couple of hundred up into the few thousands for a decent MKII. It depends on what you want to do or what you are looking for. 1500-2000 will buy you a very well looked after, but not quite mint example, whereas, up to 1000 could by you a solid car which may need a little fettling to bring it up to standard. But choose wisely and get the best you can afford.

tbh  it is a valid question espectaly for someone who hasent had one before.

you have to be carefull when buying mk2's

some people will ask £1000's for a rust bucket because it's RARE and spectial and it half polishes up and try and milk it for alll the scene tax possible.  if the ad looks liek it's written to attract scene tax payers  i won't even bother to ring up.   as long as the bodyshell is sound everything else is repareable with easy if your happy with the spanners.   i find local ads are optimal tho if your after one of the genuinly rare ones ebay is normaly where you have to look to find them in a reasonable time frame.

ive bought gti's for £200 that are in better nick than some ive seen sell for 2K  but i have bought one or two for over the odds as well, i find mk2's bloody hard to value i think price is really govend by a mixture of avalible funds , luck and what about.  tho can value a 3yr old car in about 5 seconds
