Engine Code Stamp Location???
« on: 21 May 2009, 13:28 »
Hi,

I am sorry about such a noob question but i cannot find this info anywere. Basically i think i have a EV or PB K-Jet engine from the sound advice of members on this forumn. But id love to be sure exactly what engine code it is.

I was told the stamp is above the oil filter?? But i could find nothing.

Does anyone have a pic of the exact location as my engine is cacked in crud and I am not sure where i am ment to be looking.
Thanks

I'm pretty sure that PB is a Digifant, not a K-Jet.

Pb is a digi lump but you can run it on k jet, engine code I believe is stamped on the block.

top of block, between pots 3 & 4. its just above oil filter housing, flat area. probably too rusted to read now but a bit of wire brush actiuon and shining a bright torch at different angles and you might be able to make it out. not that it really matters as all 1.8 bottom ends fitted to MK1 & MK2s are the same (except G60) carb, k-jet and digi. only difference is on carb theres a fuel pump bolted to the front, k-jet has a mounting plate for the wur where the pump would be, and digi just has a plain blanking plate here.
carb wont have an oil cooler and often has only 1 hole in the filter housing, but these unbolt/swap over.  oh and coolant pipes might be different ue to oil cooler/metal pipe arrangement etc.

Its on a flat section of the block about 10cm long and 2cm wide just below the cylinder head joint and above the dizzy. The stamping is very shallow so you'll have to clean it up well with a wire brush and then probably wet it with WD40 and then shine a torch across it at an angle to give a shadow you can read. There's quite a big gap between the letters & numbers and they are quite big & thin, probably 1cm high (on my PB they are anyway).
