Well I took it for a drive and it's still over heating when the revs go up.

So, mine isn't the temp sender.

Basically, this could be the pump as circulation is obviously rubbish, as when I stopped and opened the bonnet, all was hot apart from the bottom hose, as the engine returned to 90 degrees under idle engine speed, the bottom hose become hot. This I wouldn't necessarily put down to a stat, but who knows, That's all there is, mechanical wise is pump and stat and electrical wise istemp senders.

Garage can't see it til 3rd June

Failing that I could try a dude where I work, but it's getting it there, I'll have to drive, rest, drive rest.

I'll probably get one of them to do the pump, it doesn't seem like a thermostat issue as once the radiator bottom hose is hot, it'll stay hot, as the car just needs a chance to circulate it there. I've no doubt, considering my symptoms and other peoples past issues, that it is the pump.

yh if thats your symtoms then the pumps had a sissy fit

makesure to replace it with a metal fin one tho! as iv heard VW decided plastic fins would be a good idea on a water pump which is mostly why they end up dying

It's only an expansion tank isn't it?

Besides, non cable throttle, so would have to get an assistant.

The water should  enter via the top hose still.

Well it probably does, at idle speed.

What I could do is try to see when it's first started, depends where this enters from, top of the radiator usually. I'll see, definatley pump if at idle it moves water and doesn't only when speed is increased.
