Camber Shim Settings?

Hi,
I've just bought a pair of camber shims (Blue EZ Shim 75200* Series) for my Mk2 8v GTi.  The primary reason I've bought them is to prevent the rear tyres scrubbing on the arches.

Could anybody tell me (preferably someone who has experience with these shims!) what I should set them to?  I am looking for maximum camber, which would suggest a setting of 20/20. 

However, a friend of mine with a Mk1 has his set to 20/19, giving him a little bit of toe-in.  He did this quite a few thousand miles ago, and his tyre wear is pretty much even - but I have been told that Mk2s don't need this extra bit of toe-in?

I hope somebody will be able to give me a definitive answer....

rear wheels best off dead straight,    be carefull with the camber put to much on and the back end will get very skitish  on smaller roads and you need good tyers else you don't have enough grip to get any weight transfer to make the car use it tyer optimally.   

5 deg  negative for a track only car (  dangorus on the road )   3 deg is managable on the road but 1.5 is plenty
all the VW's have gone bar 1.

OK cheers danny_p... rears appear to already have a fair bit of negative camber - I guess that some of this is factory standard, and some is from lowerage (its about 80mm down on coilies).

Not sure now whether I should just take a hammer to the rear arches and leave the camber as-is: I guess it's come down to the age-old looks vs performance!  :undecided:

I may be getting alignment done soon for the fronts, because I only just changed the suspension (no uneven tyre wear yet, but I'm checking every day!) - may get readings for the rears to see where they're at, then adjust shims accordingly to set them to 0 degrees.

Bit of a dilemma - tempted to just whack on the rear shims at max neg camber, as I know the car is never going to go too fast round corners at its current height, and it's only going to go lower!

Guess I'll just have to sleep on it, and be less of a woman about it in the morning  :grin:

you should still have stock negative camber on a gti as its rear beam.   mk2's run a lot of negative camber ( for a production car ) on the rear from the factory.   id roll the arches
all the VW's have gone bar 1.

Ah ok cheers, I was under the impression (for some reason) that as a Mk2 is lowered, the rear camber becomes more negative due to the suspension geometry out back. 

Got sh!tty rain today anyway, so nothings gonna happen just yet :(

mine dose that  :smiley:   but it's a syncro so has trailing arms at the back not a rear beam independant suspention so lowering it gives negative camber on the rear as the arms arc up
