Hi everyone this is an ongoing progress thread of my mk2 golf,


I brought the car localy it was a 1990 1.3 golf in red none of which would usally apeal to me,
it was mint condition and for the price i couldnt turn it down as i always wanted one, after a couple of two hour trips the car started to suffer, overheating, oil leaks it had done 177,000 so it had done well,

anyway i was having a look around and i saw a mk3 gti 8v engine so i brought it, and this is the start of my car.

as i brought it



the work starts i brought some coilovers from ebay, only cost 200 pounds bargin compared to other cars i have had




then got a badgeless grill an sat it on the deck

then the engine gave up on me head gaskit and few other problems so i got my new engine a mk3 2.0litre 8v and started geting the 1300 out





i love the fact there so easy to work on the mk2, while i had the engine out i was missing a few parts so i gave the bay a very good clean

before i put the new engine in i had gti 256mm new brakes to put on it, and new driveshafts ect,

i have alot of problems with getting the right gear linkage and box in the end i got a mk2 gti box but then had to get a smaller clutch and flywheel as they didnt fit in the box



with the engine ready in it goes




obviously connected up all the pipes tubes and wires but shes in



on and smashed a headlight in the process so hence one clear one the other will be in soon

i had to temporarly upgrade the wheels due to brake upgrade ,i have a set of ronal turbo's that are in need of tyres and refurb but there be on it soon



i de badged the rear



and in time and going to de wiper hole the tailgate and shrink the number plate recess

this is my mates corado with 20v turbo helping me with the build



plans now are to strip heres a start

the cars misfireing alot and on the journey home from putting the engine in my temperary fell off i think the misfire is either full pump or somthing fuel/air as ive changes all the plugs rotor arm dizzie cap ht leads ect.


here is todays efforts of stripping all the sound deading its a tidious job but once done and sprayed up it will be worth while i am also going to make a rear strut brace and a few other bits

had a litttle play with my grill today had some left over fine line tape from the body shop changed my mind about the bumper but grills ok for now going to cut the middle 3 slats out and black mesh it like the orange vr6 on here

tried the bumper then decided it looks a bit KEV




but for now its guna stay like this other things to worry about


also got some ats classics on the way providing they fit over my brakes there only 13" staggers 7 an 8 inch guna look sweet

still having problems with the engine as its not running proply once warmed up, so shes off the road and getting sorn till its sorted, this isnt too bad as i can just do all the other bits i want untill its done,

plans are 13x7/8 ats classics(providing they fit over brakes)
inside fully striped, sanded and resparyed,
front and rear strut braces and anti roll bar,
perspects windows all around,
weight loss cut metal from inside of doors
fibre glass tailgate with smaller resess and light wight bonnet possible none chav bonnet pins,
g60 seats and full suede dash,

this is the start of my interior i removed the dash today an steering wheel, got an omp wheel to go on it and the insides going to look brand new,
 
as you can see dash has a crack or 2 down it so thats will be rapired before suede



then i took out the heater matrixs



then started stripping the sound dedning tommorow il get my sanding wheel on it and get a good serfice for paint

i also had my throttle body off to knife edge the butterfly and make the bore slightly bigger, i have done it to previous car and it seems to make it slightly more responsive.
