Mk2 GTI Restoration Questions
« on: 11 May 2009, 22:01 »
Hi all got some questions, im starting to strip my Mk2 to bits and having never removed an engine im curious what i need to do to stop it from siezing or becomming b****ed lol, do i need to drain all oil and fluids? its probably gonna be out of the car for quite some months.

Also is there any threads explaining what sort of jobs would be advisable, as in areas that are weak points on the mk2? footwells for water that sort of thing?

as i cant find what im after on the search button,

cheers in advance for those who help :D

Can't think there should be anything wrong with removing the engine for months. Just plug any exposed intakes/outakes to stop water ingress.

Look through Phill88's project, he's done a fair whack of welding to repair the body.

What is your intention exactly though, a full bare shell rebuild? Get it shot blasted and it will highlight any issues immediately.

Yeah im looking to do the bare shell rebuild, on a small budget lol its not gonna be a quick project by far though. it was really just the engine i was bothered about as i dont want any siezing etc, planning on running all new brake lines with re-con callipers etc so not bothered about the brakes freezin up or anything. any ideas how much shot/sand blasting will cost?
