golf gti box
« on: 30 April 2009, 20:53 »
Hi guys,
I am d to new to this forum, just got my GTI havin saved 6 months for it, its a colour match in blue on a P Reg 2.0l 8v. Everything was good untill saturday when it started  to leak oil from the head, this was found to be the oil pressure switch easy fix, then today whilst cruising at 70 took my foot off to slow down and heard a click from the gearbox, when i put my foot down again it was fine, foot off again and the gearbox sounds like a bag of spanners, sounds like a bearings gone but not sure. I suspect the box is dead but what I need to know is will the box from a 2.0l maestro or rover 220gti fit, I know they use volks boxes but don't know if they fit the reason I ask is i have a maestro and a 220gti scrapper so parts are availabe immediately as I need the car for next Thursday, any help would be appreciated.
thanks
cj

Hi mate sorry to hear about your bad luck! Unfortunately I'm pretty sure that neither of those boxes will fit on your golf, I've just googled it and I'm certain. Have a look at this, Item number: 120412007785 on ebay it's in kent still at 99p. Also where did you buy the car from? If it was a trader take it back!

its an 020 type box you need to look for..fitted to the 1.8,2.0 8v and some diesels (rover used the 085 boxes and don't fit!)

Seat toledo and ibiza boxes work too. Got mine from a toledo and it had the same engine and box with agg stamps. A steal at £45 for the box.
