Potential owner seeks advice from MK3 GTI Owners
« on: 29 April 2009, 20:34 »
Hey guys,

Im new to Golfs but my old man has always been a big fan and has pointed me in the right direction ;-), Im recently impoverished and suddenly need a new car with no more than a grand to spend! I went to see a very cheap one today and want some advice from seasoned owners.
Its a 1992 mk3 gti in mint condition asthetically, drove it and ran fine, nothing obviously rattling, engine smooth. Its got 150k on the clock and full service history.

Two questions: changing gears felt slightly heavy compared to my 3 series (is this a notoriously bad sign of anything?)

& 150k? how much life is left in it (assuming mechanically its in reasonable condition) Worth a punt for £650, could i get a year or two (20k a year) out of it?

Any advice welcome, espeically things to watch out for.

Thanks in advance guys

sounds good but maybe a little over-priced.  just over a month ago i bought a 1995 gti 8v with 140 000 on the clock for 400. and that was in good condition with a full 12 month test

Thanks for all your advice. Its really helpful, Im going to offer £550 for it and if I get it sell it in a few months after saving up some more and get a better one.

Thanks again guys
