MK3 GTI 8V AGG Downpipe & Manifold
« on: 01 April 2009, 21:15 »
Hi to all.

I wanted to know how easy it is to replace the Manifold & down pipe gaskets on a 8v gti mk3 AGG engine? I need a step by step if anyone dont mind. Beause its blowing from the manifold or downpipe as when you put your foot down abit you can hear it blowing from the engine side so thats the only thing i could think of. Someone who used to work with the mk2's did say to get new copper bolts as they thend to f up after some time and that is causing it to leak??? Could there be any other place to look for leaks?

Cheers girls n boys!

You can change the manifold with the engine in, but its a bit of a b*stard.

The way I did it was.....

1 Remove the intake pipe between the MAF and the throttle body

2 Remove the throttle body

3 Remove the injectors

The next stage is fun because you cant see any of the nuts for the intake manifold or the heat shield, so you doing it blind! Also there is limited space for tools

4 Remove the Intake manifold heat shield

5 Remove the Intake manifold

6 Disconnect the downpipe from the CAT

7 Remove the exhaust manifold

This is just a brief description, I can try and write a better step by step if you would like. Maybe with pics if your lucky!! lol

There maybe an easier way, but I'm not a mechanic and this seemed to be the only logical way of me removing the exhaust manifold.

I hope this helps

Okies thanks for that. Ive used injector cleaner but not made any dif (i dont think it has). Was thinking if i could diy it cant afford to get them done. Oh and will i be running into problems if i took the injectors out or are they a plug in/out thing and just tighten them?

Thanks all!
