Hi, just bought myself a (97) P mk3 gti 16v 5 door in flash red with 109k miles. Apart from the back box it's fully standard. It has vw/s/h up to 89k then reciepts for bits of work since then. From what I can gather (from reading a number of threads) it has the standard rust spots (above the windscreen and bottom of rear door), a minor oil leak (which im assuming is rocker gasket and oil pressure switch) and some minor cosmetic bit's other than that it's a very clean car and it drives really well (oh there's some creaking when im manouvering at low speed's but again I'm assuming it's wishbone bushes). I do need a few bit's and I'm hoping that someone on here may be able to help me? Firstly I need a central silencer (the section next to the back box) mine's rusted and is blowing and at the moment cant afford a full s/s system so dont see the point in buying a new section (unless I really have to!), also if there's a standard back box I'd have that to! secondly my o/s/f fog light has rusted inside and discoloured the lense so they glow different colours! Anyone that has any donor part's please drop me a line or anyone who would like to give me any tips on tuning or mods I'd be glad to hear from you too, I'm thinking it is needing a service and a tune up and I'm going to try and do the service myself so any help is much appreciated.
Thank you in advance, Matt (mk3Valver)

Welcome to the world of VW ownership.... It is very hard to escape.
If your not familar with VW's, GSF (German, Swedish and French) and ECP (Euro Car Parts) usually the first stop for any parts, esp for servicing type bits!

Thank's all, just need's a proper good valet and polish, there's 1 or 2 panels that are slightly different shades but no doubt tcut will do the trick! I'm also going to replace the grille for a badgeless 1, I ordered it this morning of ebay, regarding painting would you go for genuine vw or would cheaper stuff do the trick? Same with touch up pen gen or non gen?
