turbo yea or nea

hi lads id like to know your opinions on putting a turbo
on a mk2 gti 1.8 8v pb engine someone has put the thought in my head
i thought id put the feelers out 1st to see if its a good idea or not? :undecided:

A lot of it comes down to confidence really. You gotta ask yourself... do i have the cash if things go tits up (which it might)? is my job secure? Those are the singlemost important things you could ask yourself when taking this sort of thing on. If you answeres were yes then, yes go for it mate! Its not as hard as you would imagine, bullert-proof your luverly lump and simply bolt on, and fuel manage it. With the right contacts you could make your dream come true, providing you could finacianly support it. good luck mate.

yeah true i see your point, but in real terms, depending how old you are, whats the insurance gonna be like on a mk2 turbo?

Am I missing something? Why waste money t/b'ing an old tired lump to get unreliable/unpredictable results over just buying a 1.8T which will work out the box and get good fuel economy?

the yanks love building scrapyard turbo engines and they get power out of them,  and quite a lot of it.  but they did get the ABA engine is the toughest NA bottom end vw ever made.   
all the VW's have gone bar 1.
