Leccy Windae Conversion?
« on: 24 March 2009, 21:54 »
how much would you pay for a set of electric window regulators & gubbings? basically a complete electric window conversion for a 3door mk2 (i thinks it consists of looms, centre console, regs, switches etc...)

and is it easy to fit/whats the procedure?

fanx for any input

I think there is a full kit on ebay at the moment, centre console looked a bit dammaged but there was no reserve.

I thought about doing this, but the thing is that you cant buy new regulators anymore. Buying second hand means that most of the parts are going to be 20 years old and therefore may not be reliable.

If the motor sticks or something breaks when the glass is inside the door, you've got a bit of a job to fix it. Also, they tend to get tired and very slow. Manual winders should work all day long.
Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.

It has taken me 6 months to collect all the bits together - just waiting for some better weather to install it all. Motors and mech brand new loks to be to VW spec just not stamped with VW from Dubbers Sports VW - speak to Pete Simpson on 07796 304790. Console and wiring loom off e-bay - be patient. Switches from GPC on 01582 728892 - not genuine VAG but you cant' tell. Around £250 for all - or you can wait for a complete kit to come onto e-bay but as already said motors etc will be 18-24 year old. Or consider after market - try Poole Clayton at Andiover in Hampshire - full kit - VK16 - loom switches, motors and mech - not genuine but reportedly  fitted as after market back in the late 80's - 01264 334277 - £180 + VAT.

Good luck.

I got a full set off the bay for £30 w/o centre console. But I got away with fitting one off a MK3 polo - so its pretty available.

Manual winders suck ass, such a pain if you're pulling over to speak to someone at the passenger kerbside
