Random revving 16v!
« on: 12 March 2009, 18:51 »
Hello,
Got and idleing snag with my valver. It starts ok and rests around 1200rpm when cold- Great.

Gradually the revs independantly increase up to around 2500 rpm once i've moved it 10 meters out of the garage and returned to close the door.

As i'm driving along and stop at the lights for example, Once i dis-engage the clutch the revs shoot up again up to over 3000rpm.

This happens randomly, but continues to occur once the engine has fully warmed up.- Help

I'm thinking a sticky cold- start valve, has anyone experienced this before?

I'm getting sick of crunching the gears at 3000 rpm.    Cheers

I would start with cleaning the ICV and check that the throttle is not sticking in anyway.

Also test your idle switch on the throttle stop. And check for vac pipe leaks.

^^^^ id agree test your throttle switch

easy way to test, hold the throttle open by hand over 2krpm, press the throttle close switch with your thumb, revs should plummet then lift again - you also hear the over run cut off valve operate (it causes the revs to plummet)

Mine was exactly the same mate, Turned out to be a faulty temp sender, swap the ones around on the side of the head :) don't ask me why but that's what cured mine. One of the temp senders was faulty and reading way too high when it was connected to the dash gauge :)
