I have a golf gti mk4 20v turbo.. i bought it second hand in July 2007..
(This is long winded,so im sorry, but im desperate for help/advise.)
By the time the new year 2008 rolled in,my car was at a VW specialist due to burning excessive oil..so this was investigated and the report i got back said...
Oil Pressure reading very low,oil sump removed and metal swarf found within engine..cleaned out,oil filter replaced, sump replaced.
So i knew from within 9 months of buying the car that it was knackered, but as its on finance,i thought i had no way out... that was dated 7/4/2008.
From then to todays date,i have driven a further 4,000 miles... ( i know i shouldnt, but being outta work looking after my son,i dont have the cash for repairs).
Last week i had an overheating problem- it was the water pump.. so thats been replaced, with cambelt,tensioners....after cambelt was changed,i have had a rattling noise when my foot is off the throttle, like a fast tapping... anyway, drove car down the motorway to check its not overheating anymore when i suddenly heard a big bang from engine area.. so took it back to garage and they investigated... never found the cause, but car still runs ok..
My friend took rocker cover off and found swarf in top half of engine.. and said to me,it will die at any moment... in mean time i have gone to finance company, threatening legal action against them... Consumer direct have told me under the consumer act 1973 -Finance company must foot the bill,
so i get a letter today saying they will pay costs IF i can prove car was faulty at time of purchase?

WTF!! how do i do that???
The matter is still ongoing, and im using car for 2 miles per day and thats all. my point and vw point is that my car under 80,000 miles still, should not have engine failure or even this fault as its beyond economical wear and tear.....
any advise greatly received.ty
