thermostat cap, gasket sealent?
« on: 03 March 2009, 18:32 »
hi does gasket sealent need to be used when refitting the cap on the water pump when changing the thermostat?

iv got the rubber o ring, found the old one clogged up with blue sealent but i think this lead to it not seating properly and then leaking(original problem)

cheers

shouldn't need any sealant if the o-ring is in good condition :)

As long as the two mating faces are completely clean and the plastic pipe isn't distorted you shouldn't need any sealant, as said, the O ring is sufficient.

Just make sure you clean it up 100%.

Don't go too mental tightening it up, hand tight (~5nm) is sufficient, the water pump is alloy so you don't want to strip the threads.

its alot easier to fit with the pump off and its pretty simple to take the pump off.

thought i discovered my pully is wonky so il have to wip it off nearthe future and replace it
