Noisey Gear Box?

Evening All

I have a Mk4 8V Gti and have noticed that when I change gears it just a little noisey (No grinding etc) to tell the truth its more noticable when the wife is driving it and I can hear it outside clunking into gear. Its been like it since we had it was just curious if this is common? Car has  done 97k.

Dry linkages maybe? Has the engine bay been de-greased / cleaned recently?

My gear's are a little clunky after doing this, lubing them up help's  :wink:

If so not since we got it in Aug last year? My old Renault 5 sounded the same and the box never let me down? When im off and the wife goes to work I can hear the car outside when she gear changes I can only describe it as "clonking" into gear? In for a service at the weekend maybe ill get my friend to check linkage? Thanks for your reply Sambo  :wink:

No worries, sounds like linkages to me, bit of wd40 or similar on them should help, may need a couple of goes over a period of time for it to work in! :wink:

In between battery and engine itself a bit lower down than battery.  :drool:

Get the misses to go through the gears while you are looking, you'll see them all moving then!

Many thanks ill have a nose in the morning. Cant believe I dont know my way round the engine bay yet? Something to do with her having it Mon to Fri I guess?  :laugh: :shocked:
