Starting Problems
« on: 24 February 2009, 07:59 »
I have a 8v gti and have been having a few starting probs the last week.

The car will turn over but just not fire. Sometimes you can push the throttle and it will go but, other times if you just leave it a couple of seconds it will start fine.

The only other thing is it doesnt happen all the time. e.g. it wont start in morning but will start fine when i go home at lunch. Or will start fine in the morning, fine at lunch but then not start when i want to leave work.

Any ideas?

hi I had a similar problem on my ady engine but my car was was running rough also, I got fed up of it in the end and bought one of those hand held ob1 and ob11 code scanners and it brought up faults with the lambda and coolant temp sensors, went and ordered the parts and it runs sweet as a nut now, I'm pretty sure your coolent temp needs replacing as they can interfere with starting your car, hope this helps.

Sounds like a fuel problem.

If no codes show up you will just have to work through all the possible causes and those can be found around here!

try an ecu temp sensor (there only about £10) as these control the fuel mixture when starting/cold but these dont show up an error code
by the way if its a 2e engine (upto 94) also clean the isv out

My temp sensor shouldnt be nakered, as its only about 12 months old.
