MK2 1.8 8v burning water

hi guys i have a mk2 golf driver with a 1.8 8v engine with a Pieburg 2e2 carb and its burning water any ideas plus it holds revs at 2500+ thanks.

i'll try and explain anyway intake manifold there is a hole i dont know if theres ment to be a sensor there or a plug or pipe but water is pising out every time i fill expansion tank up. Thats one thing next is when i start the car it runs up to about 3500+ rpm its blowing white smoke and water is defo coming from the exhaust any thoughts???

are you talking about a water leak on the mounting face of the inlet manifold?  thers an o'ring that seals it.  If not it may have blown a core plug, or are you talking about the main coolant pipe that connects to the carb?  Wherever the leak is coming from this will stop proper coolant flow around the carb and will cause the waxstat to play up, in turn causing the high rpm.  Have a look at my 2e2 faq, once you figure out where the leak is from you need to eiher replae that seal or find another inlet manifold

If the white smoke is comming out the tail pipe, that's not a good thing. Is it maybe any loss of power or rough idle. if so I'd look for ahead gasket problem. or if the oil look like chowder or creamer, or if the exaughst smells like coolant (out the tail pipe). Hope it sorts for ya. keep us informed.

its white smoke it runs fine at 2500+ just dosent drop. the oil is fine. but iam thinking it might be the seal thats on the intake manifold that connects to the head for the coolent? plus the cars been off the road for 3 months. Right the two circles thats where the water is coming from its only one hole though.

those are core plugs that pop if the coolant freezes, you could try to get new ones from VW though I'd just get a known good 2nd hand one if you can.  The coolant channle o'ring is part 32, make sure you ghet a new one of those as well as the inlet gasket, also while its off a new carb flange is a good idea.

so by getting one of those cause its missing will help coolant circulate? and solve my problem? thanks for the advice rubjonny

possibly yes, a leak like that will prevent the system from pressurising so will allow the coolant to boil, which will introduce air locks, as will the eventual coolant loss resulting in a low coolant level.  Just gotta hope no serious damage has been done!
