Im sorry, but the MK4 is not "plain and booring". If you think a MK4 R32 is plain and booring you need your head checking. I came to the MK5 from a MK4 and think they are great cars and in the current climate are going silly cheap imo.

NOT plain or boring

Nothing boring about a 3.2 V6 !
Not low enough mk5
Not on the road enough mk3

sorry guys as i said earlier no offence intended just a personal oppinion but for me its a golf mk1 or a mk5 they are the only 2 models worthy of a vw badge ok the mk4 r32 is a 3.2 reasonably quick car but not stupidly faster than a mk5 gti especialy the 30th anniversary edition and for the maintainance costs of keeping the r32 running you might as well just buy a evo or impreza which is only a 2.0 and make a r32 look like a mk1 golf, and both similar priced car from new evo around 30k and r23 around 27k the figures just dont reflect in performance for me considering its a 3.2 ???

yeah id agree with you there alan d it doesnt matter what people say if you or whoever wants/likes something you arnt going to change there mind lol not long had my gti but must say really enjoying my first vw, had a 2003 civic type r before golf that was a cool car but missed having a turbo from my series 1 rs turbo days so a golf it had to be.
I was a member of a forum when owned athe civic but got fed up on there in the end with all the petty arguments and squabling that went on but must say this golf forum is alot more organised and informative, people actualy seem to want to help each other out and have a discussion without acting like a bunch of school kids= must be a more mature bunch on here haha

I know very little! But you can still contribute to the forum which is the great thing about it.

As for the original question, i completely agree with TJG: if a mk5 is wat u REALLY want, dont accept anything less. Even if u have to wait a little longer to get it - that will make it even sweeter when u can finally look out of your window and know that mk5 is yours! there's no better feeling!!

I bought my type r from performance direct, really good place and never had a single thing wrong with the civic from there

I would rather have a mk5 gti than a mk4 R32. Prefer the MK5 look though

mk5 gti is a unreal car had 17 cars in last 8 years and can honestly say its the only 1 that has really had an impact on me i wouldnt part with it for anything now hoping its going to be a long relationship haha how can a car be so subtle and nice to drive but in the blip of your right foot grow horns and turn you into a kid again lol brilliant
