electric after-run coolant pumps . . .
« on: 27 January 2009, 11:20 »
As per thread title, anyone had any issues with the electric coolant pump?  :undecided:

SWMBO came home last nite and said her front brakes were making a funny noise after she had parked and locked up!  It is actually the coolant pump - sounding like a skeleton having a w@nk in a biscuit tin.  Pongs a bit too!   (Nooooooo, not the Mrs! )

Just wanna syke myself up before crossing swords with the stealer!

Isn't a common fault afaik. If you do get it changed see if you can inspect the old one and let us know what failed.

afaik

Would be nice if he could elaborate a little more though? Is it vw fitting pumps with shoddy plastic impellors again? I've still never heard of one go other than yours, and the parts guy I got my brakes off the other week said he'd never had to order one in before.

Toph, you aint confusing this with the main engine driven coolant pump which is driven off the timing belt?  :undecided:

The one on mine which is making the noise is a secondary electric afterrun pump.  I don't think these were fitted to earlier engines - could be wrong though!  :undecided:

Nah I know which one you mean, but it'd be true form for VW to continue to make the same mistakes.
