Brakes.....
« on: 21 January 2009, 14:17 »
Hi everyone,

Sorry this is such a amateur thing to ask but i need some help.

Basically i want to upgrade my brakes. However i have no idea which bits and pieces i need nor where to find them.  :undecided:

Can anyone point me in the right direction and suggest some decent set-ups so i can get an idea of prices?

Cheers,

Tom

OEM r32 brakes will fit, also S3 and cupra brakes, all can be found very cheap on ebay (i recently found full Brembo S3 kit for 300) that included disc, calipers, leads EVERYTHING!

brakes are my next mod :afro: but probs gonna get some porsche boxter fronts

Theres a guy on the Seat forums who I presume works at Seat and does the full front brakes for £555 iirc...brand new. Which are the same as the R32 brakes.

Will get back to you with the link.
sorry but my vaux looks far better than the mk5 gti, thats why i bought it  faster too

this was true but he had a few parts missing from the price and there has been a price increase late last year so they have gone up abit

Welcome to the forum Tom

My goodness, there are loads of aftermarket set-ups you can go for. It all really depends on the main factors of what budget you have and what you want to use them for (ie track days or just for show/fast road use).

It'll be easier then to recommend something.

Hi guys,

Thanks for the posts!

Hurdy - In answer to your question i wont be using them for track days. Mainly just for show/fast road use.

In regards to budget i am more or less willing to pay whatever it takes to have a fantastic set of brakes put on my Ed30.

The problem i have is that i can go on to various websites but then i see things like calipers, pads etc etc and it just goes shooting over my head  :embarassed:

So i thought i would ask on here and see what the general consensus was

Cheers everyone,

Tom

In that case the world is your oyster

AP racing do GTI specific big brake upgrades, as do Brembo, Stoptech, TAROX (i have the latter) and even Forge.

The ECS Porsche brakes ar one of the most showy of the brake upgrades, but not particularly the best suited to the GTI

Similarly people are now doing Audi RS4/6 upgrades and I've even recently heard of a guy over on another forum who already has the Porsche Carbon ceramic brakes ready to go on his GTI.

I'm sure you'll have guys off here touting their brake upgrades too, so I'll start the ball rolling with mine. Not cheap at £2,200 plus fitting. They are very good, not snatchy or noisy and are very progressive.

The Forge ones

The ultimate brake upgrade!!
