mk2 16v stalling probs!!!

Hi guys, i have had a look around and this looks like the best place for advice and everything VW. i know i should not be asking tech questions on my first post but i'm potenially going to buy a mk2 16v at the w/end,  i have been told that it drives fine but if you are approaching a r/about and go to slow down it cuts out! it starts up straight away and off you go! i have been told that it does not do this all of the time and if the revs are low that it does not cut out! in order to stop the problem the guy has swaped a lot of elec and intake bits ie air intake from a corrado but it still happens! any advice would be greatly appreciated thaks guys! james.

Does it drive well across the rev band aside from the stalling issue?

Hi yes as far as i know it is ok through the rev range, its strange as the guysaid that this does not happen all of the time!exuse my ignorence but would this have an air flow meter ? he said that he has changed the air ideal control valve aswell thanks

ive had this and it turned out to be the overrun cutoff valve behind the airbox, the grey plastic thingy.  I stopped it happening temporarily by disconnecting the white plug near the coil with the red/black wire

Mine is currently playing up, if I take my foot off the accelerator, it won't drop down to idle, it'll drop below then cut out unless I tap the accelerator around 1000 revs to keep it alive. I believe it's a problem with the idle control, sound like the same problem you've got??

Hi thanks for all your answers they have been a great help,  i will be picking her up on thursday eve, she has a couple of little jobs that need doing ie exhaust rubber needs replacing, someone has stolen the windscreen wipers, and a gear linkeage needs replacing ( it has been standing for some months now!)i took her for a taest drive and she semed ok, no real probs, (didnt cut out!) the guy said that when i does cut out you can hear a relay clicking , not sure if this has anything to do with it?  any ideas ? thanks james.
