info on 8v & 16v
« on: 26 June 2004, 07:00 »
Hi All,
I have had a 1990 big bumper 8v'er for over a year,it has a 57i induction kit and a full sebring exhaust system.
I have also bought a 91 16v'er which is completely standard.

The problem is that the 8v seem so much quicker than th 16v that im worrying that something is wrong with engine on 16v.Just as a test wot revs would i expect to be doing @ 70 in top gear on a flat road also at 100mph(off road of course). They seem so diferent.
Is there realy a noticable dif in the low down grunt of them.the 16v seems so tame.

alrite mate ;)

remove tame, with lame mate.

16valve is well quicker than a 8valve.
ive owned both now and i can appreciate there is big diffrence between the two.
even tho the mods on your 8valver should have improved the throttle response, the 8valve should still not fell quicker than your 16v.

is the 16v running ok?
check it out on a rolling road mate.

low end they should be pretty equal, 16 valve produces more torques accros the whole rev range. ;)

Thanks
I given it a bit of stick today and i would amagine it would hit 130 as i was @ 120 @ time with some left. The engine seems to rev a bit more slowly than the 8v,is this correct..
Is there anything i should look for which is common on these engines.

Check static ignition timing.
