buy a MK3 matrix from GSF, which is also listed for the MK2.  They still sell a cheaper version which is mk2 specific, so reasonable to assume its the under-specced version that needs the valves!

Doing mine on Wednesday!! Sooooooo not looking forward to it...

Did you try soaking the nuts in WD40 etc a couple of days before? Suddenly im thinking i might go and soak the bolts tonight and tomorrow, they look pretty rusted.

I used penetrating oil...I would honestly start soaking them right now....it cant hurt

Have you looked through all the guides? They're pretty helpful...found three on here

I managed to get the top one off after a lot of swearing and bloody knuckles and the bottom one I've had to cut off.

My martix housing is totally cracked for some reason so I'm going to have to take a trip to the scrappy nd get a new one

This is the least fun job I've done on my car to date

Hopefully new parts will arrive tomorrrow so I can get it finished

just to add on my driver i had a similar prob, stud was just spinning.  No matter what i did it wouldnt budge! In the end I just yanked the btard off the firewall, which pulled the stud out o the airbox.  The other 2 studs plus all the air hosing n shiz held it on perfectly fine, i just put a bit o duck tape over the hole left by the missing stud

same as my bottom stud, duck tape seems to be sealing up the hole nicely!

the stud snapped as i lost my rag when refitting the airbox... i kicked it back into place...  :lipsrsealed:

I don't think a semi will give the same results

If you can get an angle grinder onto it....mine was to big so bought a dremel with a flexible attachment...takes a while to cut through but worded pretty well.

If you have any probs just give me a shout, am still working on mine and have the laptop out with me all day.

I have to say I got pretty annoyed with mine too lol...after I cut the bottom one off I went to the scrapy and took the whole air con system out of the golf there as mine was cracked for some reason...

Turns out that I actually have enough bolts now to refit everything without going to VW, the studs I ordered from them still havent arrived.

Got my delivery from GSF yest so have a nice new thermostat and expansion tank to go in and resprayed the tank and fan holder.....yesterday was a productive day
