V6 Intake manifold
« on: 21 January 2009, 17:09 »
Hi. New member here with 4Motion (AUE engine).

I'm seeking information about the intake manifold now but this started by trying to replace the engine coolant sensor. This sender is very difficult to get at and I thought that if I removed the manifold changeover vacuum actuator it would make more room. I took out the two screws but I couldn't remove the actuator from the manifold so I thought that if I turned it (DON'T DO THIS) I might get more room that way. Well what happened was that as I turned it there was an ominous tink from inside and something obviously fell off inside the changeover cylinder. A spring or clip or lever - who knows. Now I daren't start the engine in case whatever that fell off is loose and gets sucked in.

My question is does anyone know if it is possible to dismantle this part of the manifold without removing the whole manifold? Second question; as anyone who has worked on this V6 engine knows the inlet manifold a huge arrangement that goes over the top of the engine. It looks to be a major job to remove it. Has anyone who has already done this job got any practical tips?

Thanks in advance.

Eric

There aren't a lot of 4mo owners on here fella, and I would guess none of them have removed their intake manifolds. The 'tex has a technical section dedicated to the engine though, might be worth checking there? http://forums.vwvortex.com/zeroforum?id=42
